Interplanetary Shock (or CME Arrival)
Catalog: M2M_CATALOG
Location: Earth
Event Time: 2023-12-04T04:30Z ( DSCOVR: PLASMAG )
All Detecting Spacecrafts:
DSCOVR: PLASMAG
ACE: SWEPAM
ACE: MAG
Activity ID: 2023-12-04T04:30:00-IPS-001 (version 2)
Quality of ICME Signature: 1 (lacks some signatures)
Note: The solar wind speed was already elevated at L1 due to the arrival of a coronal hole high speed stream at 2023-12-03T16:08Z, and this is a complicated signature that is combined with the coronal hole high speed stream. Start time characterized by amplification in magnetic field components, with B_total increasing from approx. 6 nT to 10 nT by 2023-12-04T05:10Z. This was accompanied by an increase in density. The solar wind speed increased from around 500 km/s to 520 km/s, reaching 550 km/s around 2023-12-04T09:00Z. Following the CME arrival at 2023-12-04T04:30Z, there was a decrease in temperature, but the temperature began to rise around 2023-12-04T05:00Z, possibly due to the continued coronal hole high speed stream influence. Around 2023-12-04T15:15Z, the flux rope becomes apparent in the magnetic field, with clear separation in the magnetic field components until around 2023-12-05T06:00Z.
